Removing Moss From You Roof:Starting At $1.00 Per Square Foot

Moss isn’t only unsightly on your roof but it is slowly undermining its functionality. When mosses grown on an asphalt roof they grow into the granules that protect the asphalt from UV exposure and weathering. Loosening these granules it can promote the premature failure of the roof. As well, the moss tends to adhere to the shingle at its most critical points for water shedding and inhibits water shedding from the roof as well as retaining moisture at the vulnerable points of the shingle. This holds true for asphalt and cedar roof systems in particular but can also pose issues on tile,metal and membrane roofs as well. In these cases it is about water being retained in areas where it should flow freely so as not back up causing water infiltration.
